DIY Vintage Mirror Makeover

Wednesday, June 11, 2014

If you follow me on instagram then you might remember when I rescued this precious mirror from the garbage a few months ago. Working at a retirement community, we often times have the opportunity to grab some old goods when residents pass away or move out. This mirror though was headed to the garbage because the mirror had shattered and so I snatched it right up seeing the value in this awesome mirror. Well it's finally time to show you what I've done with it.

First off, I got out some stress and destroyed the rest of the broken mirror to little pieces into the garbage. I now know that wasn't necessary at all but at the time I thought that's what was needed because I decided the back of the frame was too difficult to take off. Thankfully mr g is much smarter than me and easily took off the back when it was time.

So after getting the mirror out, I took some spray paint I had on hand that I'm using to makeover my hobby room and gave it a nice coat of teal.

While it dried, I decided what should go inside. I've been dreaming up making a gallery wall at the top of the stairs and decided this vintage frame would be a great focal point. The gallery wall is now finished but will get a whole post coming soon so I'll explain more then, but this quote fits the theme perfectly.

I loved the detail of this frame and wanted to extenuate the scroll work, so left a light coat of paint to let the original detail show through. I'm so excited with how this easy frame makeover turned out and hope you like it as well!

  1. Wow! That frame is gorgeous. Love the new color. :) Trash finds are some of the best finds - I actually scout out my neighborhood streets for "junk" the night before our pickup. Never know what you will find at the curb. #sitsgirls
