DIY Wooden Spoon Garden Markers

Wednesday, June 25, 2014

Ever since we built our garden beds a few months back I've been pondering what type of garden markers we want. Of course I wanted something I could diy but also something classy looking that could last through a few seasons. I found some adorable wooden spoons that had been written on using a wood burning tool and I knew that was it. My father-in-law has a whole wood-burning kit from the '70s that I knew would do the job.

In search of some cheap wooden spoons, I ended up at Big Lots and found a set of four wooden spoons for only $1.50!! What a deal! Granted, I can't use the slotted spoon but it's still a much better deal than all the other spoons I had found. And even was better than buying them from Goodwill.

So I started by typing what I wanted on the spoon on my computer since I'm not very good at freehanding pretty fonts and then writing it down. (This is American Typewriter Light for those of you that want to know.)

I then went to work writing with the wood-burning pen. Next time, I will write it in pencil rather than pen so that I can erase the marks at the end. Oh and just in full disclosure -- making rounded letters with a wood-burning pen is not easy!!

But it was so worth it! I love how they turned out and am excited to make more as our garden grows.

  1. These are really cute Amanda! I've had a tiny vegetable garden for a couple years, but talked the hubs into building bigger raised beds for my mother's day gift this year. It's so much fun having a garden! Pinning these, thanks for the inspiration! -Amy
