How to Hide TV Cords
Wednesday, February 26, 2014
There is nothing that messes up a beautiful flow and modern design like a mess of cords. There are a lot of different ways to cover them up and make them disappear but a lot of them are tacky and a lot of them cost way more than they should. What we ended up doing was VERY simple, VERY classy, and most importantly, cheap.
All you need to pretty up the mess of cords is a sheetrock saw and two flexible opening cable wall plates (we went with the black one). Like this one. The lovely thing about the wall plates is that they come with a handy dandy little stencil that allows you to cut the hole to exactly the right size. It really doesn’t matter where you put the wall plate as long as it is hidden and gets the cords where you need them to be. We put ours right behind the tv and then on the side wall right above the bottom floating shelf we built.
Once you decide where you want it to go, all you have to do is trace your stencil, cut your hole, fish the wires through using the tubing deal that comes with the kit, slide them through the wall plates and screw them in. Super easy!
You don’t have to worry about hitting a stud or anything, in fact it is easier if you aren’t near a stud at all, because there are little wings that fly out and grip the sheetrock when you tighten the screws. Once you get the cords through, plug in the cables wherever they belong and you’re done! Definitely one of the easiest spruces done in the house so far.
