What's a valentine's mantle if you don't have some cheesy love quote? Thankfully a few weeks ago Michael's had a big sale and 8x10 canvases were BOGO so I bought four. I started with my blank canvas and painted it gray using some left over paint from a shelf we painted a few months ago.
Without a real set plan in my mind I kinda just went with whatever popped in my head as I went. I grabbed the heart stencil leftover from my valentine's garland and taped it to the dry gray canvas. I then grabbed some tubes of red and white paint and mixed up some pink paint. I then used a large brush to make a fanned effect around the edges of the heart. I was hoping it would give you the subtle reminder of a heart when you read the phrase at the end.
Once that was all dry then I layed down my vinyl with the phrase that I already cut out using my Silhouette Cameo and painted the canvas red.
I waited about 15 minutes and then my patience (or lack thereof) got the best of me and I removed the letters. I realized that I was in too much of a rush and after putting my vinyl down, I forgot to paint over the canvas with gray to avoid having the red seep under. So instead of being frustrated, I just went with it! The next morning when the canvas had enough time to dry, I grabbed some sandpaper to rough up the edges a bit. I loved how it turned out!!
